In America, the early performance arts achievements of the young Maureen FitzSimons (who we know as Maureen O'Hara) would definitely have put her in the child prodigy category. For a child from Irish background, surrounded by talented parents and a loving family, they had innate talents. Maureen arrived in this nurturing haven, August 17, 1920. Her family was her parents and family members. She was the daughter of Marguerita Lililburn FitzSimons an accomplished contralto. Charles FitzSimons managed a Dublin-based company and was the owner of a portion of "The Shamrock Rovers" an eminent Irish soccer team. Maureen was the second of six FitzSimons children - Peggy, Florrie, Charles B. Fitzsimons, Margot Fitzsimons and James O'Hara completed this beautiful family. Maureen was a natural athlete and loved playing sporting games. Her passion for sports was matched by an equally natural gift of performing. This is why she won the majority of the Feis Awards for acting and dramatic performances in her home country. The Abbey Theater was her first choice. Abbey Theater by age 14 as she was able to fulfill her goals of opera as well as classical theatre and singing.
